University of Manchester
A bit about Kimberley Bell
I am currently a PhD student based at the University of Manchester. Before coming to Manchester, I completed my undergraduate and Masters degree at Lancaster University. I come from a Linguistics background, where language acquisition has always been a particular interest of mine. During my undergraduate degree, my research focused on first language acquisition among 3-5 year olds and its relationship with Theory of Mind development. My MA research was also within the language acquisition field, studying individual differences in second language learning.
My Role in LuCiD
I am thrilled to have become part of the LuCiD team where I can study my interest in child language acquisition further. My particular project will be centred on the communication theme researching young children’s acquisition of modal and mental state terms. In particular, I am interested in how children’s acquisition of these linguistic structures interacts with their socio-cognitive development with a particular focus on Theory of Mind.
