Dr Samantha Durrant, a postdoctoral researcher at LuCiD, has worked with the BBC's Tiny Happy People team to produce an article titled "Understanding Cognitive Development: Different Stages and Piaget’s Theory". The piece offers parents insights into cognitive development and practical tips, based on Piaget's theory, to try at home.
Dr Durrant highlights the importance of offering children a range of experiences, encouraging curiosity and exploration in a safe environment to support their cognitive and language development. She explains, "Language isn’t a path on its own—it needs cognitive skills, motor skills, and interaction with the environment."
Dr Durrant also discusses the concept of a "virtuous spiral," where skills in one area foster growth in others, helping children’s abilities develop together.
