25 students from Ashton Sixth Form College visited the LuCiD Child Study Centre at the University of Manchester yesterday. The visit aimed to give them a taste of university life, show them a glimpse of what is involved in language development research and share with them some of what we know about how children learn to communicate.
The group took part in a series of interactive demonstrations, had a go on our eye tracker and watched examples of some of our experiments in action. They day closed with talks from Dr Bahar Koymen on peer communication and Prof Elena Lieven on symbolic play, followed by a Q&A session.
