Amy Bidgood, Research Associate for the Language 0-5 project, has written two articles about language development for English and Media Centre's eMagazine.
The first article, Learning about Language Acquisition: How the Language 0-5 Project is helping us find out what's really going on, outlines how the Language 0-5 team are investigating child language acquisition, using a wide variety of different research approaches to get a complete picture of all the factors involved. Amy explains why it's important to gain a full picture of how children learn to communicate with language, the different techniques involved and what we hope to learn at the end of the intensive 5 year project following 80 children. The article is out now and is available in open access on the Resources pages of our website.
The second article will come out later in the year and focuses on the role prelinguistic skills (such as gestures and babble) in language development.
