Language Baby is Highly Commended at UoM Making a Difference Awards

Language baby, a collaborative event organised by LuCiD and our friends at the Whitworth art gallery, was 'Highly Commended' at the University of Manchester Making a Difference Awards for Social Responsibility which took place on Friday. Amy Jones from the Whitworth collected the award on behalf of the team.

The event built on the Whitworth's existing Art baby - Music baby programme, where babies and their grown ups take part in free sensory play sessions exploring different colours, objects and textures, as well as enjoying music from a local musician. Language baby unsurprisingly focused on language, with a storyteller leading babies through a mini-adventure with words, even before the babies could talk. Attendees were also given the opportunity to talk to and take part in demonstrations with language development experts from LuCiD. Many of the caregivers attending the day were surprised to learn just how much language babies understand  and how they use gestures to communicate with us long before they can talk. For more information about Language baby, read our event blog.

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in putting together Language Baby, in particular:
